Miri Piri Diwas Patshahi Chhevin celebrated with devotion at Sri Akal Takht Sahib

Amritsar, July 19: On the occasion of Miri Piri Diwas of Patshahi Chhevin, Guru Hargobind Sahib, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) organised a Gurmat Samagam (religious congregation) at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Monday. The event was attended by head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh, Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur, Jathedar Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, SGPC general secretary Bhagwant Singh Sialka and many other prominent personalities. On this occasion, after the culmination (bhog) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, the hazuri raagi group of Bhai Harbhinder Singh of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib connected the Sangat (devotees) with Gurbani Kirtan and Bhai Sultan Singh offered prayer (ardar). After reciting the holy hukamnama, Giani Jagtar Singh shared the history of Miri Piri Diwas and encouraged the Sangat to follow the path shown by the Guru. Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh while congratulating on the occasion, said that this doctrine of Miri Piri (Sikh doctrine of close relationship between temporal power and spirituality) is a combination of spirituality and temporal power in the Sikh community, which is of great importance in the religious history of the world. “The path shown by the sixth Guru to Sikh community by connecting to the doctrine of Miri Piri, connects the community with spirituality as well as to protect the oppressed. The voice of Miri Piri from Sri Akal Takht Sahib proved to be the one that shook the roots of the tyrannical Mughal government of the time. It resisted the tyranny of the powerful and oppressive government, which changed the cowardly thinking of the people and brought them out of slavery. This was the reason why Sri Akal Takht Sahib has always been challenged by the rulers/governments”, said Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh. Jathedar appealed to the Sikh community to adhere to this honourable doctrine of the Guru and adopt Bani and Baana (Gurbani and traditional Sikh attire) and to uphold Gurmat (teachings of Sikh Gurus) traditions and customs. During the function, the historical Miri and Piri kirpans (swords) adorned by Guru Hargobind Sahib at Sri Akal Takht Sahib were also shown to the Sangat. On this occasion, prominent personalities were honoured with Guru’s blessing Siropaos (robe of honours). During the function, SGPC general secretary Bhagwant Singh Sialka, SGPC member Jagsir Singh Mangeana, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhayasi, former Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, head granthi Giani Gurmukh Singh, Bhai Malkit Singh Varpal, SGPC secretary Mahinder Singh Ahli, additional secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, Partap Singh, assistant secretary Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, Sulakhan Singh Bhangali, Gurmeet Singh Butter, Sukhbir Singh, Gurmeet Singh honorary secretary, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, superintendent Malkit Singh Beharwal, OSDs to SGPC president Dr Amrik Singh Latifpur and Dr Sukhbir Singh, manager Narinder Singh, Nishan Singh, Jaspal Singh Dhade and others were present.
